Residential Building of Ilija Petrov

- Building chronology (project, construction phases)The Petrovi House was designed as a single-family residence for Ilija Petrov and is the work of architect Metodija Petkov. The building features a sculpturally resolved composition of the façade volume, where the corner placement is treated through a curved base form, the addition of a porch, and an overall expansion of the building’s volume toward the corner. If the corner is considered the center of the composition, there is a local symmetry between the two corner façades, with the exception of the entrance. The composition of the corner façade is defined by a recessed spatial arrangement, complemented by the corner balcony on the upper floor and the party wall, which is angled to further emphasize the corner. The entrance area is accentuated by a portal, and the ground floor is elevated. There is a secondary entrance on one of the side façades, accessed by an external staircase, which is presumed to have been intended for household staff. Secondary ornamentation is applied in several places on these façades, with a noticeable use of groups of three elements in different parts of the composition. The two rear façades, oriented toward the block, are much calmer and simpler. Parapet walls are visible on several sides of the building, and façade lighting is installed at the corner of the rear side.Number of floorsB=GF+1+AProgram description (floor plan details)There are residential spaces on both the ground floor and the upper floor. - The relevant institutions for the protection of cultural heritage and other decision-makers should take into account the values possessed by the building, recognize it as architectural cultural heritage from the period between the two world wars, and register it in the inventory of valuable objects. Recommendation to the owners: The value of the building should be respected when installing elements directly on the façades, and if changes are made, they should be aimed at preserving its authenticity.
